The Malahat Bike and Kayak Adventure

This guided one-day tour is great for families and people of all shapes and fitness levels. The Malahat is a mountain pass with a summit of 365 metres (1,156 ft.). It was originally named after the Malahat First Nation and is still spiritually significant to them today. Departing from downtown Victoria, your tour will begin on the ViaRail Dayliner, where adventurers will sit back and enjoy a scenic train ride up The Malahat featuring spectacular trestles and panoramic vistas. From the Shawnigan Lake Village, you will plunge into an exhilarating downhill run to the picturesque apple orchards of the Merridale Estate Cidery. After a tour and a delicious tasting, you will cruise further downhill to Mill Bay, where a small ferry will motor you across the water to Brentwood Bay. Following an excellent lunch at a favorite waterside eating establishment, adventurers will enjoy kayaking in the protected waters of the Saanich Inlet where a large variety of wildlife can be observed. After an enjoyable paddle, adventurers have the option of either cycling back to Victoria along the Lochside and Galloping Goose trail or taking a relaxing ride in our courtesy van back to Victoria with a pit stop at an ice-cream parlor on the way.

This tour will give you a first hand look at the classic West Coast scenery with plenty of fresh air, the chance to see a variety of wildlife, take advantage of numerous photo opportunities and get plenty of exercise on your adventure. Fully escorted tours depart every day May 15 to September 30, 2010 from the Downtown Victoria VIARail station.
